India to Manufacture First Bullet Train Prototype in 2025

2025-05-30
As a key initiative in its railway modernization drive, India will launch the construction of its first bullet train prototype at the BEML (Bharat Earth Movers Limited) factory in Bangalore in September 2025. The state-owned enterprise BEML will oversee the comprehensive design and production of two high-speed train sets, with each set comprising 8 carriages. The trains are designed to operate at 249 km/h and achieve a maximum speed of 280 km/h.
Upon completion of the prototype, it will enter a validation phase, after which BEML will initiate production of 15 passenger carriages. These trains will undergo oscillation tests and speed trials on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) corridor to ensure compliance with all quality benchmarks. India's bullet train project marks a bold leap forward in rail transport, enhancing the nation’s global competitiveness in high-speed rail through innovative and cost-effective strategies. This landmark achievement signifies India’s stride toward building an efficient and modern high-speed rail network, while laying the foundation for its participation in international high-speed rail technology competition.
