New Locomotives Delivered! Boost for Brazil's Arauco Project
Wabtec recently completed the delivery of the first batch of ES44 locomotives at its Contagem plant in Minas Gerais, Brazil, officially launching the rail transport system for the Arauco Sucuriú project. These locomotives will be dedicated to pulp transport, injecting strong momentum into the local industrial chain.
"Heavy-Haul Expert" Arrives, Tailored to Brazilian Transport Needs
The Sucuriú railway system is planned to be equipped with 26 ES44 locomotives and 721 freight cars, with a maximum trainload capacity of 9,600 tons, enabling efficient transport of pulp from the plant to export ports. Based on Wabtec’s "Evolution Series" platform, this locomotive model is widely used in heavy-haul operations across the Americas. Its traction performance and axle load design are fully aligned with the requirements of Brazil’s long-distance freight corridors, making it suitable for bulk cargo such as iron ore, agricultural products, and forest products, demonstrating excellent operational adaptability.
