Breakthrough! DB Receives First Low-Floor Intercity Express from Talgo

Deutsche Bahn (DB), Germany's national railway operator, has notified Spanish manufacturer Talgo of its confirmation to receive the first ICE L low-floor intercity express, marking the official launch of deliveries for the ICE train fleet based on Talgo's 230 platform.

This delivery demonstrates Talgo's technical strength and contract fulfillment capability as a world-class train manufacturer, and more importantly, signifies that it has gained the trust of the EU's largest railway operator—another key step in its efforts to deepen mobility solutions in the highly competitive market. The ICE L, part of Talgo's 230 technology platform for long-distance intercity services, complies with Germany's strict accessibility regulations. Each train offers 562 seats (85 in first class and 477 in second class), including a bistro/café car and a dedicated carriage for Persons with Reduced Mobility (PRM). The interior features an all-new design that combines functionality, durability with the brightness and warmth of materials; the windows are newly customized to enhance in-train phone and mobile data signal coverage.

The order was the first firm contract awarded to Talgo by DB in 2019 following a highly competitive bidding process. The first ICE L train will make its official debut at an award ceremony in Berlin on October 17.
