Swedish rolling stock manufacturer Kiruna Wagon has signed an agreement with Kraftdragarna to develop a customized 32‑axle heavy haul railway wagon with a maximum load capacity of 490 tons. The wagon is specifically designed to transport critical overweight and oversized components for the energy and infrastructure sectors, such as power transformers, enhancing Sweden’s logistics capabilities for complex infrastructure projects.
With a total length of approximately 74 meters, the wagon is tailored to Swedish railway line conditions, with key optimizations in load distribution, negotiation of tight curves, and clearance adaptability to ensure safe and efficient operation on complex routes. Scheduled for delivery in August 2028, the wagon will directly support the transport of oversized goods required for Sweden’s energy transition and major infrastructure programs.
Drawing on its extensive experience in heavy haul transport, Kiruna Wagon has focused on improving the wagon’s load‑bearing system, axle‑load distribution, and structural dynamic performance to ensure the safe and reliable rail transport of heavy equipment like transformers and pig iron, thereby further strengthening Sweden’s overall heavy haul rail logistics capability.
