June 10, 2025 - A new player has emerged in the European mobility sector. Nox, a start-up based in Berlin, aims to provide a real alternative to short-haul flights. Founded by rail enthusiast Thibault Constant and Janek Smalla, a former co-founder of FlixTrain, Nox plans to launch a night train service in 2027, offering private cabins or rooms on 35 European routes at prices competitive with air travel.
The concept of sleeping on a train while crossing Europe is fascinating. However, currently, passengers have to share their cabins with strangers, the beds are tight, and it is usually more expensive than air travel. The accommodation design of the new trains is different from the traditional sleeper configuration. Each room is equipped with a 2-meter-long bed, a dedicated seating area with a table, full standing height, and integrated luggage storage. Premium options include double beds and panoramic window configurations. Nox claims that this layout enables higher passenger density, creating the efficiency required for competitive pricing, with single rooms starting at 79 euros and double rooms at 149 euros.
