The "Apm61 Panorama" train of Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) was showcased in the Czech Republic last year during the presentation of the EuroCity trains, but it has not yet been put into use locally. Designed for inter-state long-distance travel, this train has a 30-year history, a maximum speed of 200 km/h, and is equipped with air conditioning. It underwent modernization in 2010, and SBB purchased 12 such panoramic carriages in 1991.
It is specifically built for EuroCity trains passing through areas with mountain and river valley scenery, such as routes crossing the Alps and the Rhine Valley. It has previously operated on lines from Switzerland to Italy, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Austria and other countries. Thanks to its large arched panoramic windows, the visibility of the panoramic carriages is 90% higher than that of traditional carriages, and the viewing angle for passengers from their seats is increased by 25% to 40%. Additionally, the floor inside the carriages is higher. Railway enthusiasts are very interested in riding these carriages, and many of them often gather around the trains, stations and the railway tracks they pass by.
