Rail giant Stadler and Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) officially unveiled a new double-decker long-distance train, set to enter operation between Vienna and Salzburg by the end of 2026. The new KISS train set, designed with a top speed of 200 km/h, will offer approximately 20% more seating capacity, enhancing passenger comfort and accessibility.
Designed for passenger comfort, the KISS train set meets modern expectations for long-distance rail travel. Each train includes two quiet zones in the end carriages and family-friendly carriages in the middle. It features a dedicated bicycle area, vending machines for snacks and drinks providing basic on-board catering, as well as on-board Wi-Fi, real-time travel updates on passenger information monitors, air-conditioned interiors, and a total of eight restrooms per train (including one accessible restroom). Other features include secure luggage racks, USB charging ports, and standard power outlets. Each train will accommodate 486 passengers, significantly increasing the route's capacity. The new trains have low-floor entry areas and wide accessible doors, ensuring seamless access for passengers with reduced mobility, bicycles, strollers, and luggage.
