On January 22, 2026, the new 11-car electric train "Ivolga 4.0" completed its first empty return test on the Moscow–Kaluga line, covering a total distance of over 300 kilometers. The test was jointly supervised by experts from Russian Railways, Central Suburban Passenger Company, and the Moscow Department of Transport. The trial focused on verifying the train's compatibility with existing public infrastructure, evaluating interstation travel times and section performance, and assessing stability on bridges, tunnels, and overpasses. Additionally, the operation of automated systems, remote control units, traction, and power equipment was comprehensively tested at speeds of up to 160 km/h.
Designed specifically for the Moscow Central Diameter lines, the "Ivolga" series was developed by a team of Russian engineers, with 97% of its components manufactured domestically, demonstrating Russia's independent R&D and manufacturing capabilities in the rail transport equipment sector.

A key upgrade of the "Ivolga 4.0" is the three-door layout in the middle cars, significantly improving passenger boarding and alighting efficiency compared to previous models. Combined with wider door designs, passenger flow is further optimized. The train aims to enhance comfort and capacity, featuring a pneumatic suspension system for noise reduction, additional handrails, USB ports, information displays, and media screens. Dedicated parking and charging areas for cyclists and e-scooter users are provided, along with reserved spaces for strollers. The 11-car configuration offers a total of 646 seats.
In October 2025, a black commemorative version of the "Ivolga 4.0" entered passenger service on the MCD-4 line, having safely operated for 60,000 kilometers prior to this test. With its minimalist interior and stable climate control system, the model provides a comfortable travel environment, marking the successful completion of the large-scale rolling stock renewal program for the Moscow Central Diameter lines.
