Siemens Mobility has recently launched its new low-emission Mireo Smart Plus B battery-powered train. Unveiled at the Wegberg-Wildenrath Test Centre in Germany, the train is set to enter service in 2026 on the RE 47 line between Remscheid-Lennep and Düsseldorf Central Station, replacing the operator's existing diesel trains.

The Mireo Smart Plus B train features a dual-mode operation (catenary and battery) with a top speed of 140 km/h and a range of 120 km. It can efficiently utilize existing infrastructure, as its battery system supports charging both while moving and stationary, eliminating the need for additional charging facilities. Equipped with advanced silicon carbide (SiC) technology, it significantly reduces energy consumption, enhancing energy efficiency while cutting operational costs, thus achieving both environmental protection and economic benefits. The train has 122 seats, a multi-functional area, and a dedicated first-class compartment with 8 seats, along with Wi-Fi, barrier-free access, and storage space for 12 bicycles. It also incorporates Siemens' high-frequency window solution to effectively improve mobile phone signal reception inside the carriages.

Under the full-service contract, Siemens Mobility will be responsible for the train's lifecycle maintenance, ensuring nearly 100% availability in daily operations. In the future, preventive and corrective maintenance will be carried out at Siemens Mobility's rail service center in Dortmund, one of Europe's most advanced rail transit maintenance bases. Additionally, Siemens Mobility will provide digital services through the Railigent X platform to monitor the train's operational status in real-time and issue fault warnings, enabling proactive arrangements for maintenance work at the Dortmund repair workshop.
